Agra, the city that holds one of the seven wonders of the world, Taj Mahal. The ivory-white marble mausoleum, the symbol of greatest love in the history of India. The tomb was commisioned by Shah Jahan, a Muslim emperor, in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, she was a Persian Princess, who was married to the ruler and was dead while giving birth to their 14th child.
Taj Mahal is constructed on the south bank of the Yamuna, the mausoleum was designated as “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage”, in 1983 by UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It is one of the most visited places in India, attracts approximately 7–8 million visitors every year and this year I was one of them. It was 3 hours long drive from Delhi, we took Yamuna-express highway, started our journey around 8 am and we reached Agra city by 11 am. This was my first visit to Agra, and I was looking for a luxurious property at affordable pricing, luckily I found Four Points by Sheraton in less than 3,000/- Rupees per night. It was totally a steal deal for me, especially when it’s a chain by Marriot. There are many other high-end luxury properties in Agra, but I vouch for this one, read on to know why!?
VIEW OF TAJ FROM THE HOTEL
The first time I had a glimpse of Taj was from the terrace of Four Points by Sheraton, Agra. We reached Agra on Friday as we were not aware that it remains closed on Fridays for tourists due to the holy prayers. It was 5 pm in the evening when I went to the terrace of the hotel and witnessed Taj Mahal for the first time in my life, it was a surreal moment. Not just this, the hotel also provides their visitors with special rooms which provide a direct view of Taj, though there is some addition to the cost, but trust me that view of Taj while sipping your coffee in your room will be priceless.
24/7 OPEN KITCHEN & ROOM SERVICE
The hotel satiated my cravings for dal makhani & hot chappatis at 4 am in the morning, I am literally a night owl as I hardly sleep at night and normally feel hungry around this time. Thankfully, they offer a 24/7 open kitchen and I can’t be more grateful. The food was delectable, fresh and nicely cooked, though slightly overpriced but it was worth it.
POOLSIDE ROMANTIC DINNER
The 4-star property owns the most gorgeous rooftop restaurant just beside the pool area, which is splendid for romantic dinner dates. If you are out on a romantic getaway, then you must dine at The Rooftop and enjoy a scrumptious meal with a stunning view of Taj along the poolside. The average cost for two would be 4,000/- Rupees, definitely not a huge price for such a delightful night.
FITNESS CENTRE & SWIMMING
For all the fitness freaks, the hotel has a fitness centre on the terrace along with the pool for those who like to swim, both of these facilities have specific opening and closing timings, you must check with the staff before stepping out of your room.
DISTANCE FROM TAJ MAHAL
The hotel is just 10 minutes drive away from Taj Mahal, you can book a cab for just Rupees 60/- (ola/uber) and you’ll reach the mausoleum in maximum 10/15 minutes. There is hardly any traffic, and we recommend not to take your own vehicle as the parking might take a lot of your time. It is always better to take a cab.
The property is exquisite, the rooms are spacious and well-designed, I am totally in love with Four Points by Sheraton Agra. Highly recommended for people travelling to Agra anytime soon.
